Philippines is Independent!

The declaration of Independence is one of the most important milestones in Philippine History. After 333 years of being under the Spanish rule, the Pearl of the Orient seas has been freed. Imagine achieving the freedom after all the hardships you’ve been through, it is priceless, that’s why Philippine Independence is the most significant event in our country’s history.

Philippine Independence Day has been celebrated every June 12 since 1962. It was originally celebrated every July 4, but the President Diosdado Macapagal change the date to June 12, in commemoration of Emilio Aguinaldo’s declaration of independence from the Spaniards.

This year, on June 12, the Philippines celebrated its 123 years of Independence. This day is also a national holiday as the Philippines manifest its Independence from the Spanish rule.

Filipinos celebrated this day to remember the sacrifices, bravery and heroism of our fellow Filipinos who fought against the Spaniards to fully achieve the freedom of our country. Filipinos also promote the rich Philippine culture and traditions during this day. We, Filipinos believe that Philippines is as free and rich as other countries. Baka Pilipinas ‘to!

Since we are still on a pandemic, we celebrated

this year’s Independence Day with limited fanfares. No more parades in many places and less programs and activities conducted by the government. Filipinos celebrated it virtually in their homes. That is sad but still, we managed to celebrate this important event happily.

We are facing another battle which is the COVID-19 pandemic. Again, the Philippines is fighting for its freedom and independence, but not from the Spanish rule, from the coronavirus. Our frontliners, modern-day heroes, are on lead in assisting us on this battle.

Indeed, the Philippine Independence is the most significant event in our country’s history. We managed to fight just to achieve our independence from Spain so I believe we can also fight for our freedom from COVID-19. The end of the 123rd Independence Day Celebration will be our motivation to fight this invisible enemy. We can do it, co-Filipinos!
