WOMEN: DESERVE TO BE EMPOWERED

Women ever since have been deprived of having freedom and choices. People are used to have the perception of men being much superior persons while women are weak and incapable of doing heavy works. Women endured so much for over a decade. They experienced violence, gender inequality and discrimination. But nowadays, women are empowered. They now have the freedom and rights to serve, speak and stand up for themselves.

Good thing, Filipinos are brainwashed with the thought that Bigueña women are very strong and independent people. They appreciate the efforts of women while struggling and aiming for rights and respect. That’s the Filipino Culture. We love everyone equally.

During this pandemic, Bigueña women are helping us today to combat COVID-19. They are on the frontlines serving and guiding us against the virus. They continue to serve despite of the huge impact of this crisis. This just reflects that women are strong and brave enough to prove their abilities and capabilities to do other heavy activities. They are capable of serving, empowering and raising their voices.

Bigueña women take on the important role of influencing the success and productivity of future generations. The best example of this is

the first woman who started her own community pantry in Marikina. It all started with one woman putting a community pantry along the famed Maginhawa Street in Quezon City. It might not seem like much at that time but, as they say, sometimes one is all you need. Ever since Ana Patricia Non set up the Maginhawa Community Pantry, many others followed suit both in Metro Manila and in different provinces all over the country. The word “Bayanihan”, which is so familiar to Filipinos, happened again during this pandemic and a woman made that happen.

Empowered women are not threat to men. It is a great weapon for us to achieve gender equality in our society. We should remove in our minds the thought that men are more superior that women. We are all equal.

Let’s continue empowering women. In the past years, women contributed a lot in different sectors of our society. Let’s give them the freedom and rights to speak up for themselves. Let them show their capabilities. By making this happen, we will all live our lives peacefully and equally.
