Salute to the Heroes!
Most people often confuse “Araw ng Kagitingan” with “National Heroes’ Day”. The former commemorates the day of the Philippines’ last stand before ultimately being occupied by the Japanese during world war II.
happened on April 9, 1942 where many Filipinos died, properties were destroyed, and a war took the whole place. It is a dark story written in the dark pages of our history book.
Thousands of our countrymen died during these horrible times. Their sacrifices are something to be proud of. Their courage should never be forgotten. That’s the reason why we celebrate “Araw ng Kagitingan” or “The Day of Valor”. This Day of Valor commemorates the heroism of Filipinos and American soldiers when the Japanese occupied the Philippines during World War II. It was a national observance until a Letter of Instruction No. 1087, dated on November 26,1980, made “Araw ng Kagitingan” a national public holiday to honor the people who helped bring democracy and freedom in the Philippines during the World War II era. The government further proclaimed April 9 as “Araw ng Kagitingan” to pay tribute to the heroes of Bataan.
This year celebration has a theme, “Kagitingan ay Gawing Gabay, Pandemya ay Mapagtatagumpayan”. Let this day remind us the courage and determination of the brave souls who fought during the Fall of Bataan on April 9, 1942 during the World War II. Let’s honor the heroes and veterans who sacrifice their lives and blood for the Valor of our country. Let’s all salute our veteran heroes!
