For Christians especially Catholics, summer is not just a time to celebrate graduation and go on vacation, it is also the time for Lent. Lent is the season of reflection, fasting and almsgiving for Christians. Lent starts on Ash Wednesday.
This season commemorates not only the Passion of Jesus Christ but also of the time he
went to the desert to reflect and meditate for 40 days. This season encourages Christians to follow in the footsteps of Christ while resisting the temptations of the material world. It is the perfect time to practice paying attention to God’s presence in our lives and focusing on how we might better communicate with God, which is to say striving to pray better. Most Catholics know the drill: you give something up for Lent as you have Easter Sunday circled on your calendar. But last year threw us all for a loop. We were forced to give up worshiping in Church, seeing our loved ones, going to school and so much more. In the months since, almost every person knows someone who has contracted or even died from the COVID-19. Though Lent ended on Easter in 2020, it feels like it still hasn’t quite ended because of the sorrows that COVID brought to us.
Even though we are without so much now in Lent because of COVID pandemic, we still
praise the Lord. Not just during the liturgical seasons of ordinary time, Christmas or Easter but at all times, everyone should praise the Lord.Since we are on pandemic, we didn’t have the chance to do the things we used to do during Lenten season like Visita Iglesia. But good thing, we were able to attend online mass with the use of modern technology. Despite of these challenges we are facing right now, we still find ways to communicate with God.
The true meaning of Lent is love. Jesus Christ himself has modeled to us humility and sacrifice by his birth in the humble manger and death upon the cross for our salvation. Let us open our minds and hearts for the words of God. Praying is the best way to strengthen our faith. Keep praying and stay connected to him.
