No one can stop festivity!

Every January 25, Vigan City Festival is held to celebrate the conversion of the city’s patron saint, St. Paul. At a normal January 25, I should be watching on the sidewalk of Calle Crisologo Street with hundreds of locals and tourists enjoying the long parades and the dances prepared by the street dancers. We really held it cheerfully. The city officials have different gimmicks so we can’t hide the fact that we have a roller coaster of emotions about it. These happenings serve as our yearly routine but things suddenly changed after an invisible enemy ruled the world.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the fiesta is not that lively anymore. The virus hinders everyone to celebrate the Vigan City Fiesta the way they celebrate it before. But as always, city officials are doing their greatest to continue the joyful fiesta despite of the trials that we are all facing right now.

The city government of Vigan is indeed the best because they make the Bigueños experience the fiesta virtually. I love how they handle this year’s fiesta! I got to witness the activities through social media platforms like Facebook. Yes! They did live streaming! The challenge here is that some people may question them that why are they doing such activities even if we are in the middle of a pandemic. Good thing, the Vigan City government assure that all the participants are following the health protocols throughout the activities. No one can stop Vigan City in promoting their treasured culture.

The virus can’t totally destroy the festivity. We can’t let it hinder us to promote our culture. We still got to experience the festival safely by watching the livestreams in the internet.

I’m hoping that this global crisis will be stop soon so that we can celebrate the Vigan City Fiesta the way we celebrate it before. No more masks! No more faceshields! Viva Vigan!
